Toby Astill PhD

Renewable Energy Technology Development Advisor

Dr. Toby Astill received a Ph.D. in fuel cell electrochemistry from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Victoria in Victoria, Canada. His Ph.D. research was predominantly based around proton exchange membrane fuel cell technology and its application in transport.
Once he finished his degree, he worked for 2 years in the fuel cell and clean technology sector in Vancouver as a Marketing Officer for the National Research Council – Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation (NRC-IFCI). During his time with NRC-IFCI he worked with technology partners in the fuel cell, alternative fuel vehicle (LNG, electric mobility), UAV and energy storage sectors to develop their technologies for operating efficiency in extreme environmental conditions. Toby advices GTA Canada in the area of Renewable Energy Technology Development, especially in analyzing, evaluating and proposing improvements to a novel BioEnergy and energy storage technology. He has lived in England, South Africa and Canada. In his spare time Toby enjoys travelling, sailing, underwater hockey and automotive mechanics.
